Maintaining your floor.

  • MATS

Place at any doors or entrances where heavy traffic occurs. Additional mats may be placed inside the doors however, do not do this until at least two weeks after the finish has been applied. This also applies to floor rugs and hall runners. Chairs, and any other furniture that is moved frequently, should have floor glides attached to the bottom of each leg to help prevent scratching and wear. Do not wax the bottom of chair legs.

  • DIRECT SUNLIGHT

Direct sunlight will cause discolouration over time, as it will with any furnishings. It effects some coating types more than others. Filter the sunlight using blinds or curtains to avoid this where possible. Prolonged direct sunlight on the floor through glass may also cause shrinkage in the boards due to heat differential. Install blinds or curtains on windows and glass doors.

  • REGULAR CLEANING

Spills and tracked in dirt can be cleaned by lightly damp mopping the floor with a house-hold sponge mop. Use clean water for regular sponge mopping. DO NOT ever wet the mop. Excessive water can damage the floor. Regular dust mopping or vacuuming is an essential part of hardwood floor care. A good quality antistatic dust mop or soft vacuum head (these are available with removable wheels) is the most effective tool for cleaning dust and dirt off the floor. To keep your floor looking its best, dust mop or vacuum at least twice a week if there is dirt present. However, be careful. Vacuum cleaner heads and the wheels can leave scratches…..so opt for the mop as a preference! unless you have the right head.

  • DO NOT USE CERTAIN PRODUCTS

Don’t use cleaning products without them specifically mentioning the suitability to timber floor finishes. Even then some super market type cleaners contain silicon and waxes, which will cause problems when time comes for a re-coat. Chemical additives are particularly a problem. It is best to use a cleaner made by or  recommended by the manufacturer that produced your floor coating.
